- Proper behavior and good sportsmanship is expected from every player.
- Decisions of the Organizing Committee is final and binding.
- All matches are single set with a 10-point tie break (first to 10 by 2) if set score is 6-6.
- New tennis balls will be provided for each match.
- Teams have to report to the organizers desk at least 5 minutes before their match is scheduled.
- If a team does not report to the desk more than 10 minutes past the scheduled time, the match will be awarded to the opponents.
- Organizers may, at their own discretion and only if tournament schedule allows, try to reschedule a match if sufficient advance notice is given.
- A chair umpire will officiate each match.
- Players are expected to make line calls, with the umpire helping resolve any disputes.
- Line calls must be made without delay by the side playing the ball; otherwise, the ball shall be presumed to have been good and play should continue.
- In general, no ball can be called out upon less than 100% certainty.
- If teams disagree on a call, the umpire will step in to resolve the dispute.
- Teams may be asked to re-play the point if the umpire is unable to make a call.
- The umpire's call would be final and binding.
- The Team winning the toss has to pick from one of the following options
serve first, in which case the opponent picks the side to receive the first serve
pick the side to receive the first serve, in which case the opponent serves first
have the opponent decide to serve first or pick side to receive first serve
- ORDER OF RECEIVING - The team which is due to receive in the first game of a set shall decide which player shall receive the first point in the game. Similarly, before the second game starts, their opponents shall decide which player shall receive the first point of that game. The player who was the receiver’s partner for the first point of the game shall receive the second point and this rotation shall continue until the end of the game. Every game in the set will follow the same rotation.
- Teams switch ends after every odd game of a set.
- Prior to the first serve of a point, the umpire will announce the game score. Any discrepancy should be immediately addressed.
- Teams are allowed a 5-min warm-up time prior to the start of the match; and a brief break when they switch ends.
- If the umpire determines that a team is indulging in time wasting tactics, they will be warned and subsequent violations will result in a point being awarded to the opponent.
- After every match, teams should report the scores to the Organizers desk.
- Please be courteous in picking balls from your side of the court and returning them to the server promptly at the end of each point (do not return them when the server is preparing for second serve unless the server asks). For safety reasons, please pick up stray balls and don't leave balls in the court or behind the baseline where a player could trip over them.
- If a ball rolls into or behind an adjacent court, please pick it up only when it is safe to do so and without interrupting the play in progress.
- When a ball from another court enters the playing area, any player on the court affected may call a ‘let’ as soon as the player becomes aware of the ball. The player loses the right to call a let if the player unreasonably delays in making the call.
- A team shall concede the point when:
A ball in play touches a player of the team (including shoes) before the first bounce even if the ball was obviously out
A player of the team touches the net or opponent’s court while a ball is in play
A player of the team hits a ball before it crosses the net
A player of the team deliberately carries or double hits a ball; or
A ball bounces more than once in that team’s court.
- TIE-BREAKER - A 10-point tie break (first to 10 by 2) will be used to determine the winner of the match if set score is 6-6
- The team that was the receiver of the last game of the set will serve first in the tie-break.
- Each team can decide the partner who will serve first. Once the order is made, they will continue to serve in this order for the tie-break.
- Similarly, teams can decide the side of the court that each partner will receive serves in. Once the order is determined, partners will have to continue playing from that side of the court for the tie-break.
- The team serving first serves the first point from the Deuce side. The following two points are served by the opposing team, starting with the Ad side. This rotation continues till a winner is determined.
Teams exchange ends after the first point and every 4 points thereafter.
- Retirement - A retirement occurs when a match has started and a doubles team is unable to continue due to injury, emergency, refusal to play or any reason other than weather related.
- Scoring of Retirements - In case of a retirement, for the purpose of determining standings, the non-retiring team shall be credited with such number of additional games as would have been won if the match was completed and the non-retiring team won every subsequent game.
- At the decision of umpire, a match may be suspended due to rain. When conditions are suitable to resume play, the match will continue where it was left off. The score stays the same, and players take the same side of the court they were on before the interruption. If the match was suspended for more than 15 mins, a 5-min warm up will be allowed.
